American Idol hopeful JMarie shared with Ryan Seacrest during a chat on-air on Friday, March 28, that the show has helped more than just her singing career.
The season 23 star shared growing up she was told she was either "too chunky" or "not cute enough" to make it as an artist. The negative comments led her to suffer from bad self-esteem and a lack of confidence and the "fight against being compared."
"It really helped me a lot inside," she reflected. "It was more than just a singing competition. ... It really made me believe I was accepted and I can be in those spaces with all those other great artists."
