Department Of Homeland Security Has Delayed The REAL ID Deadline Again

The deadline to obtain a REAL ID has been pushed back once again.

"DHS continues to work closely with U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories to meet REAL ID requirements," DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement about the latest delay. "This extension will give states needed time to ensure their residents can obtain a REAL ID-compliant license or identification card. DHS will also use this time to implement innovations to make the process more efficient and accessible. We will continue to ensure that the American public can travel safely."

The Department of Homeland Security announced today that they will push back the deadline for air travelers to get the REAL ID by another 2 years, which will now land on May 7, 2025 and not on May 2023. The original deadline of October 2020 had to be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone who is over 18 years old must obtain a REAL ID-issued driver's license or get another federally approved ID card if they want to fly domestically. Click here for more.
