'Parks and Recreation' Is Officially Leaving Netflix

"Parks And Recreation" 100th Episode Celebration

Another beloved comedy series is leaving Netflix. Shortly after announcing both Friends and The Office would no longer stream on Netflix, the fate of Parks and Recreation has been revealed. Leslie Knope and the rest of the Pawnee gang will be joining The Office on NBCUniversal's own streaming platform, Peacock, which will launch in April 2020.

Though details about the deal have not been disclosed publicly, NBCUniversal's direct-to-consumer and digital enterprises chairman Bonnie Hammer said the media company paid a "competitive and fair" price for the show. Parks and Recreation, of course, originally aired on NBC from 2009 to 2015. As the network prepares to launch Peacock, they are actively buying back the streaming rights to many of their most popular series. Back in June, NBCUniversal reportedly agreed to pay $100 million per year for The Office's streaming rights after the show's Netflix deal expires.

In addition to Parks and Rec and The Office, Peacock will stream a number of other popular shows, including 30 Rock, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cheers, Frasier, Friday Night LightsEverybody Loves Raymond, Saturday Night Live, Will & Grace, King of Queens and Married With...Children. The streaming platform will also have movies from Universal Pictures, Focus Features and Dreamworks Animation, including American Pie, Bridesmaids, Knocked Up, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, A Beautiful Mind, Back to the Future, Brokeback Mountain, Casino, Dallas Buyers Club, Do the Right Thing, Erin Brockovich, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Field of Dreams, Jaws, Mamma Mia!, Shrek and The Breakfast Club.

While Netflix is losing some of their most streamed shows, they've responded by acquiring the rights to another beloved sitcom. All 180 episodes of Seinfeld will arrive on Netflix in 2021. Parks and Recreation will begin streaming on Peacock in October 2020.
